May 2025
Historically, the month of May is met with students in distress over final exams and trying to finish the semester strong. Those concerns reigned true as we finished the Spring 2025 semester. CARE Team stayed busy during the month of May, working with 52 new students who all faced similar concerns and barriers to academic success. The top concerns these students faced were in relation to academic distress- including finals, submitting coursework, graduation, and maintaining GPAs. A unique data point for May is that 40 of the 52 students referred to CARE Team were reported by May 15th, which was the last day of finals. Meaning 77% of the students CARE Team worked with were all reported the last week of classes or during finals week. CARE Team observed that students referred to our office before May 15th were quicker to respond to our outreach efforts, and more open to scheduling with a case manager.
Looking ahead, June will likely see a decrease in reports and caseloads but will likely see an increase of reports voicing basic needs not being met as students often face housing instability or food insecurity during the summer. We can predict these concerns based off historical data from the last 2 summer semesters.
